Hello

DB: Welcome to the daily 2026 World Cup Language Podcast everyone. My name is Damon from the Learn English through Football team. Are you well? I hope so – there have been some cracking games so far, and more on day six of the World Cup. What’s your favourite goal so far? Mine is Moroccan player Saibari’s lob over Brazil’s goalkeeper Alison for the African team’s opening goal – a beautiful touch and in a big big match!

Lots more matches today. Are you keeping up? I am managing, but with a lot of catch up highlights. A lot of games here in Japan start around 4 or 5 am and, well, I have to go to work when the 8 am and 10 am matches are shown.

(a) Stunner

DB: Right the phrase we have today is a stunner, which means an amazing or dramatic goal. In day six’s match up between France, one of the tournament’s favourites and Senegal, one of the strongest African teams, Mbappe scored a stunner, a great goal, from about 30 yards out. 30 yards out means, 30 metres basically,, from the goal, so a long way.

Here is how ESPN described it:A late stunner from Kylian Mbappé sealed a dramatic win for France in their opener against Senegal.’

This was a great match, and the final score, 3-1 to France, flatters the European side. To flatter a side, means the win was not as easy as the score suggests. Senegal pushed France all the way, and as the ESPN report said, it was a late goal from Mbappe, a late stunner, that made the win safe. The goal came in the 96th minute.

But it was a great goal, smashed from outside the area into the net.

(a) Worldy

DB: Was it a ‘worldy‘, I’m not sure. A worldy means one of the best goals ever, a world class goal. This is usually reserved for the most remarkable or special goals. Now, Mbappe’s strike was great, but I don’t think it classes as a worldy

Hat Trick

DB: On the same day that Mbappe scored a stunner, another of the world’s top players, Messi, scored a hat trick, the first of the World Cup. Of course, a hat trick is the way we describe a player scoring three goals in the same match. Argentina, overpowered Algeria 3-0. They breezed past their opponents. To breeze past is to win comfortably.

A hat rick from Messi or the stunner from Mbappe, which was most impressive for you?

We’ll be back tomorrow with more football language from the World Cup. Until then, ta-ra!

PakarPBN

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
